Intel Matrix Storage Manager is a driver which offers support for fault-tolerant and high capacity SATA RAID 5 arrays. The software also provide support for high-performance SATA RAID 10 arrays.
Intel Matrix Storage Manager is able to support a wide range of Intel chipset based platforms, such as Intel 945, Intel 955X, Intel 975X, Intel 965, Intel 3 Series, 4 Series and 5 Series. Moreover, redundant SATA RAID 1 arrays and high-performance SATA RAID 0 arrays are supported as well.
The Intel RAID technology requires the Intel 82801HR I/O controller hub, Intel 82801GR / GH I/O controller hub, Intel ICH9R / ICH9M-E / ICH10R/PCH / PCHM SATA RAID controller hub, Intel 631xESB / 632xESB I/O controller hub, or the Intel 82801FR I/O controller hub.

- This wiki will discuss the proper way to uninstall Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology driver and replace it with the standard Microsoft SATA AHCI Controller driver. Unfortunately, in many cases Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology is not like most software that you generally can uninstall from Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs, etc.
- Matrix Storage Manager option ROM. The Intel Matrix Storage Manager (IMSM) option ROM is a part of Matrix RAID that has to be used in the BIOS to create new RAID arrays. As of 2014 Intel uses 'Rapid Storage Technology' -'Option Rom'- on its new chipsets, dropping the 'Matrix' name.
- The Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) Driver (17.5.2.1024) supports the configuration and enabling of system acceleration with Intel® Optane™ memory and maintenance of RAID 0/1/5/10.
- I don’t know if I need this software but my new dell included it for some reason When I first plugged it in the Intel Matrix Storage manager said it was going to be used to manage the drive (I had not installed the WD software yet). The weird thing is that the Intel Matrix software does not see the device as a RAID device.
I have a Dell XPS430 with a Raid 1 configuration managed by Intel Matrix Storage Manager. I recently replaced one of the 1TB disks which had failed and rebuilt the Raid onto the new disk. I have a server with 3 hard drives: one System Drive and two drives in RAID1 for data. Raid1 is done via Intel Storage Matrix software. Today Intel Storage Matrix said that array is degraded and must be rebuilt. I clicked rebuild array. After that I was no longer near this server.

I have windows 7 and this is running in the background.
Using process explorer, I can see most of the DLLs are named, but two are unsigned called locale.nls
an SortDefault.nls
. One has no description OLEAUT32.DLL
.
What are these files, what do they mean, and should I be concerned if they are lacking descriptions?
I have never heard of an .nls
file.

The Intel homepage is no help. Intel(R) Matrix Storage Driver
I would imagine this is part of the whole RAID setup, but I do not even know if I need to be running RAID if I am running WAMP or not.
Is this something I can uninstall, or would it be recommended to keep this? (I have an Intel Atom N450.)

Intel Matrix Storage Manager is basically a piece of software that communicates with the Intel I/O Controller / SATA ports in order to give you an overview of what is happening. (And RAID status if it is setup)
There should be a separate program that can graphically tell you what is plugged into each port.
Intel Raid Matrix Storage Manager
On top of this, it can 'sometimes' make your machine go faster under certain circumstances - it installs some funky I/O drivers that increase access times. During benchmarking, I noted a increase of around 9% using it - However, it was also responsible for severe BSODs on Vista. I guess they would have fixed that by now.
As for WAMP, RAID is always recommended on servers (for quick rebuild) but it has nothing to do (directly) with Intel Matrix Storage Manager
William HilsumWilliam HilsumQuick search gives results for .nls. It appears to be Code Page National Language Support file. It was used in DOS era.
As for OLEAUT32.DLL, it's part of Windows. Here's a description: http://www.auditmypc.com/process/oleaut32.asp
As you yourself found out, Matrix storage manager is part of Intel's drivers. It would be safest to let it be installed.

As far as RAID is concerned, take a look here. Having RAID and running WAMP are not actually related. It'd be nice if you could use a nice, large and safe array for WAMP, but it's not required.
AndrejaKoAndrejaKoThe files locale.nls
and SortDefault.nls
appear to contain locale data for Windows.
Microsoft Locale Builder and intl.cpl
read SortDefault.nls
primarily but not locale.nls
.
Deleting either %SystemRoot%System32locale.nls
or %SystemRoot%GlobalizationSortingSortDefault.nls
causes a BSoD.
I had problems with audio and video playback on my Dell Inspiron 1750 Notebook computer. It was driving me nuts because it was so annoying! I was ready to buy a new laptop until I found something on the web about disabling Intel Matrix Storage Manager. I disabled it and playback is fine now for video and audio!!! OH HAPPY DAYS!!!!!Brad.PS: And my computer runs just fine thank you.
